  • WHERE IS BOLLYWOOD CINEMA HEADING ???

A Reflection on Violence, Creativity, and Responsibility

A new film titled Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has recently been released in India and has quickly become a topic of national discussion. The movie is receiving massive public attention—largely because of its intense and extreme violence. Many viewers even claim that it surpasses Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal in terms of brutality.

This brings us to an important question: Where is Bollywood cinema going, and what direction is it choosing for the future?

    Cinema’s Influence on Society

Cinema is not just entertainment; it shapes thoughts, behaviors, and values. From children to adults, people absorb what they watch, often without realizing it. That is why the rising trend of violent and explicit content in mainstream Bollywood deserves serious reflection.

A Contrast: South Indian Cinema vs. Bollywood

South Indian films continue to stay rooted in their cultural identity. They deliver strong storytelling—rich with emotion, suspense, humour, and meaningful messages. Their dedication to craft and culture is evident.

Bollywood, on the other hand, seems to be caught in a loop of repetitive sequels—Part 1, 2, 3, 4—often because of a lack

of new ideas. Instead of investing in fresh narratives or diverse themes, many filmmakers appear to be competing over who can push the limits of vulgarity or violence further.

But is this really creativity? Or is it a shortcut to easy publicity?

The Impact on the Younger Generation

The growing trend of adult content and extreme violence has consequences. Younger audiences may begin to normalize aggression, abusive behaviour, and negativity. Cinema that once carried messages of hope, love, and humanity now increasingly leans toward shock value.

If this continues, the future may bring even more disturbing content—pushing boundaries simply for profit.

    Where Is the Censor Board?

Many viewers are questioning the role of the censor board. Why are such films being approved without proper guidelines? It raises concerns about whether commercial interests are overshadowing moral responsibility.

    Good Cinema Doesn’t Need Excess

History has shown that great films can be made without vulgarity or violence. Stories that spread compassion, courage, morality, and humanity have a lasting impact. They inspire generations and strengthen society.

    There’s a saying:

“If you want to weaken a nation, drown its youth in cheap entertainment.”

This warning feels more relevant today than ever.

    Culture, Roots, and Responsibility

Some argue that if viewers want better content, they can simply watch European cinema. But what they forget is that many European industries still respect their cultural roots—and some are even embracing aspects of Indian culture now.

Bollywood, with its global reach and cultural influence, has a responsibility. Films are not just a business; they are a reflection of society and a tool to shape the future.

A Call to the Film Industry

This is a humble appeal to Bollywood filmmakers:

Create content that uplifts, inspires, and strengthens our youth. You have the power to shape a generation—do not use it merely for financial gain.

Make cinema that we can proudly pass on to the next generation: cinema rooted in values, creativity, and humanity.
